1750 Venom Spam, another version

Photobucket

It's really pretty much finetuning by now, but I'm tempted at taking a blaster archon instead of the baron. I've done okay with reserving my army if going second, and the blaster archon adds perhaps more to the army (an extra blaster and flickerfields on the ravagers), besides I get to use my archon model :D. Any thoughts are welcome

Archon with blaster @ 75pts.

4 Trueborn with 4 blasters @ 108pts.

  3. Hi,

I seem to find that I run out of anti-tank in my battles, but your 25 lances should do fine. My only concern is horde anti infantry. Venoms are great if finghting marines 1.3 wounds per venom is nice at 15 pts a kill, but not so great at 2 kills a turn against 4-6 point models if they have cover. The only solution I've found is a basic razorwing.

One of the only other weaknesses I can see for your list is a mech list that sits more than 24" away. You only have 3 vehicles that can hit the enemy, which will be shot at straight away. However I think just being aggressive with the venoms (even flat out turn one) should be able to deal with that scenario. Another idea is to give the warriors raiders with shock prows. They increase your long rang anti tank and allow you to tank shock to contest objectives surrounded by infantry (takes the list away from venom spam but makes it more balanced).

My only other comment is do you need 4 trueborn, will 3 suffice ? The 81 point saving could be used to make some upgrades to the archon and hekatrixs to make them a better counter attack. Agonisers on the archon and all three hekatrixs would cost an extra 50 pts. Maybe the rest could be used to upgrade a ravager to a razorwing (if you lose one set of haywire grenades to save another 10 pts).

Overall, what ever I say, it's a very effective army, and will do well.

  4. Thx Rathstar. I agree, hordes are a lot harder to deal with. On the otherhand, at that recent tourney I went to, I did manage to kill off the horde. 18 dead orks from venoms each turn can add up as long as you play patiently and don't let your opponent kill you.

Backfield mech can be annoying, but I tend to move 12"+disembark on t1, and that gives me 33" of range. The 4-man trueborn squads have turned out to be pretty cool. I used to play 3-man squads, but 4 really are so much more reliable (and point for point trueborn are a good way to access blasters). I might toy around with your idea of taking agonisers and a razorwing with the savings from the trueborn. Thx for sharing your thoughts!
