FMC Daemons: 1850 Tournament Report

 photo WP_000377.jpg
Yes, I have been pretty much off the grid for the start of 2014 (happy new year everyone :D). Unfortunately, I can't really promise a change to that. Finishing my bachelor's degree and all that. This is however, my 200th post.

So, last weekend was another 1850 tournament held by NjT in Espoo. It was a nice venue, the tourney fee included food (which received some critic for being "basic food" but I really liked it) and overall it was pretty well handled in my opinion. I played almost the exact same list I've been playing up until now:

Fatey
LoC, ml3, 2x greater rewards
11 Horrors, 1 extra, champ
10 Daemonettes, champ
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch, ml3, wings, armour, greater and exalted rewards
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch, ml3, wings, armour, greater and exalted rewards
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch, ml3, wings, armour, 2x greater rewards

Game 1

Game one was against one of the ex-captains of the Finnish ETC team, Pekka. He was running pseudo Daemons (csm/dae) with a csm prince, fatey, grimoire prince, 2x cultists, 2x daemonettes, 2x drakes (one hades) and screamers. Oh, he also had a bastion with comms. The missions were all BAO, this was Big Guns, Relic with Hammer and Anvil.

Pekka made me go first and the start  of the game was pretty uneventful. Pekka got outflank for his warlord and managed to keep him off until t4. That really restricted me and his screamers did a good job of preventing me from getting the relic. I went aggressive with fatey t4 despite not having the grimoire, and got punished. Then I vector struck some helldrakes only to realize that now I couldn't fire 2 witchfires at his grimoire prince (which I was looking to kill). Silly mistakes on my part but Pekka also forgot GtG when I took FB from his nettes t2 and left a gap for my DP to run and contest the last objective t7. I won Big Guns because of killing the grimoire prince and otherwise the secondaries were a draw. 14-6. I caught a huge break.

Game 2

My opponent was playing a DE/ELD list. It wasn't really optimal and the game was pretty much over before it began. He also wanted to go first because he feared I would fly up and smash his bastion holding scourges inside. Not much to comment on in this game. I don't want to sound arrogant but he was playing with a borrowed army that he wasn't as familiar with, which wasn't on the same level as my own. I waited until t4 and secured the missions (purge and scouring). He managed to keep linebreaker, I had all the secondaries. 19-1.

Game 3

I was up against Roni. He had NEC/TAU. D-lord with wraiths, overlord and haywire-tek, 3 scythes with warriors, 2 anhi barges, buff commander, riptide, 15 sniper kroots and 2 broadsides with missile drones. Mission was big guns, relic, vanguard strike.

I got to go second but Roni put 2 wounds to my grimoire prince with his ion accelerator. T2 the grimoire came back behind some losblocking terrain with his buddies, but the riptide ripplefired with the buff commander scoring 7/8 hits and killing him off. Not a great start. The glyph prince died to one scythe and an anhibarge on t5. Overall I managed to limit what he could shoot and he left one objective with just a barge to hold it. Despite being a scoring unit, it still isn't a denial unit, so my Daemon prince snatched it from him earning me a 13-7 victory.

Game 4

Jukka is a veteran CSM player. He's been around the block for all the ETCs. This time he had CSM/NEC. sorceror with spawns, 3 cultist squads, 2 baledrakes, 3 oblits, d-lord with wraiths, 2 warrior scythes and an anhibarge. Mission was Scouring, Purge, Hammer and Anvil.

Jukka made me go first and I deployed aggressively. The tourney used the actual rulebook scouring, so ofcourse Jukka got the 4-pointer in the back of his deployment zone :/. He deployed the wraiths and spawn behind a fortress of redemption (it was just as terrain) and his barge on the opposite flank. I pushed 4 MCs up next to his spawns and fatey towards the barge. His spawns and wraiths fell back, realizing slay the warlord and first blood might be right around the corner, but the barge decided to move up and snapshot a prince. I gambled with fatey and moved up to fire rear shots while the other guys flew off. Destroyed the barge and luckily the wraiths failed their 8" charge to fatey after he'd been grounded by cultists coming from reserves.

The crucial moment came my t5 when his last scythe with 1 hp left denied 3 times in a row. The warriors zoomed up to harass my horrors and eventually take their objective, earning Jukka scouring. I won Purge and got slay the warlord off the warpstorm table. Both had linebreaker. 11-9.

Game 5

Last round was against the same guy as in the last tourney report I did here, Allu. He had the exact same Taudar list. Buff commander, 2 riptides (one skyfire burst, one ion), 2x kroots (one big), broadsides with missile drones, farseer on bike, 2x5 avengers in serpents and a wraithknight. Mission was crusade, emperor's will and dawn of war (only dawn of war in the entire tourney).

Allu made me go first. The game started like the last one but this time allu pushed very aggressively towards my deployment zone. The table had a nice row of impassable terrain to jump on top. It kept fatey safe, but it also kept the riptides and wraithknight free with Allu going second. T2 fatey puppet mastered the iontide to shoot at the broadsides with farseer. Result: 1 broadside and 1 drone left. Nice! T5 allu would have snatched a win with crusade (managed to clear one objective) but it went on to t6 where I forced the draw on both missions and snatched all the secondaries. Allu had linebreaker so 12-8 for the Daemons.

End result? Won all my games and came in 3rd. Oh well, gotta love battlepoints. Jukka ended up drawing with Eetu on points so their was a quiz regarding the Winter War (which was the theme of the tournament) to decide the winner. Eetu was off by about a year regarding when the Winter War broke out, whilst Jukka was only 2 weeks. It was actually a pretty funny way to decide the winner, we had a good laugh about it.

 photo WP_000378.jpg

Some final thoughts. I was forced to go first 3/5 matches and still won them all. So Daemons aren't dependant on going second. My wins were never big (well if we leave out round 2) which is probably because I hide away for most of the game. The list is really strong and wins all the time, but it can't really smack the other guys head in when given a good matchup. I used the winnings I got to buy a bastion, but I'm also considering revisiting the screamer star. You can use it conservatively (hanging out and shooting stuff) and break it off to 4 contesting units t5, but you can also jam it at the other guy if he can't deal with it. I do loose FMCs in the trade, which means more limited flickering fires (FMCs are more manouverable) and less skyfire. The screamers would just add a threat onto the table, have more manouverability with contesting (not being limited by facings and actually making most of their move in the shooting phase, after you've cleared bubblewrap) and provide that autowin button if you happen to stumble into the right matchup. Dunno if it'll be better. So far I've always returned back to the good old 5 fmc list.

ETC 2013

 photo etcPAPAD.jpg
The Swedish captain, Daniel "Papa-D" Hesselberg, feeling good after wooping my ass in the Singles. It was great hanging out with all the guys, some of which I'd already met at Adepticon.

ETC 2013 is over, and it was a blast. Here's a brief recap of the main event.

Round 1 was against Wales. We'd had plenty of time to think about the first round pairing and had found it to be a close match based on lists, with a slight edge for Wales. I ended up being paired up against their mech gk, as the last pair before champions. He had 3 psyflemen, 7 psybacks (5 strike squads, 2 purifiers), coteaz and a paladin manning the quad gun with aegis.

 photo etc1.jpg
 Forward boys!

We were playing big guns (5 obj.) with 5th ed spearhead deployment. All etc missions had 4th ed style victory points. He won all the rolls at the start, picking the side with more objectives and getting first turn. I reserved all the attack bikes and all but one troop squad, deploying as far back as possible. First turns I moved up slowly, blowing up some psybacks and purifiers who had moved up. He shot at the riptide with his long range stuff, making about a wound per turn. He was still concerned with all my reserves arriving on his flank, and held back 3 strike squads completely out of the fight.

 photo etc2.jpg
You'll see many pics just like this.

I brought my stuff on with the rest of the fire base, starting to move up with the attack bikes turn 3. My commander joined the riptide to shoot 2 psyflemen who had a purifier in between to place the marker on (twin-linked, ignores cover, tankhunter ftw) on t2. Eventually I killed off all his HS, scored 2 objectives (one with the broadsides the second with the big kroot and librarian) and denied one objective with attack bikes. Game ended t5 12-8 for me. Unfortunately, our csm player took 0 points from wraithwing and we had some other minor losses. No major wins on our side meant we lost the round.

Round 2 was against The Czech Republic. I played their scythe spam crons (I was paired into the match). He had imothek and some av 13 vehicles starting on the board, with 4 scythes and 1 doomscythe in reserve. Crusade (4 obj) + killpoints with vanguard strike.

 photo etc3.jpg
 Hiding......

So that was pretty much the match. I got to go second and a fortified ruin in my deployment zone so the doom scythe wouldn't instagib my broadsides. He brought stuff on in the corner, and tried to score killpoints with imothek's storm. I tried to shoot stuff with the commander-riptide combo. I reserved as much as possible first, to minimize lightning. I eventually scored first blood (t3) from a Catacomb Command barge, whilst he had just brought my whirlwind down to 1 hullpoint on his turn. He came up t5 with all his stuff, but couldn't kill anything. I proceeded to shoot his warriors off objectives (ap4 ignores cover ftw) and gain control of 1 objective. Lucky for him, game ended t5. I won 13-7. The rest of the team did well aswell, we won the round.

Round 3 was against Romania. I was put forth as second defender, and they paired Tau into me. He had 2 riptides, 8 broadsides with missile drones, firewarriors behind an aegis and minimal eldar allies. It was one objective in the center of the board, emperor's will with dawn of war deployment. Lucky for me, I got first turn.
   photo etc4.jpg

I'm pushing so hard t1, the camera can't keep up with it.

I deployed my broadsides in my fortified ruin (he had no markerlights for some reason) and all the attack bikes ready to go. My troops and whirlwind were in reserve. TFC is alone on the right flank.
He deployed behind his aegis with about half his troops on reserve. He didn't seize. My suit commander joined multimelta attack bikes, pathfinders scout moved to mark another broadside squad and suddenly he was two squads down. He retaliated by killing a squad of attack bikes and instagibbing a broadside. However, it was pretty much over by then. Next turn I killed the last broadsides and the game went on to t7. He had a single wounded riptide contesting the center objective and kroots on his base that had passed 2 turns of ld6 morales and killed off the attack bike in combat with them. 14-6 for me. Finland won the round.

Next up was Belarus. I was put forth as second defender and got DE with nightshields. Unfortunately for him, he had splinter rack raiders, which can't range deny my broadsides.

 photo etc5.jpg
Back in the safety of my fortified ruin

We were playing Relic and crusade (2 objectives) with dawn of war deployment. He got first turn but deployed across his entire deployment zone as my objective was on my left flank. I deployed everything on the right, except one attack bike squad, which hid behind a hill to the left. Whirlwind and troops in reserve. His first turn caused my pathfinders to break, but they rallied. He'd brought up 4 splinter rack raiders and I proceeded to shoot them all down with target locking broadsides. MM attack bikes on the left exploded a ravager. Some ignores cover on the beast pack killed a few khymerea. His beast pack charged some attack bikes, eventually dying to reinforcements. After t2 all his troops were dead, except 5 warriors in combat with an attack bike. Around that time our coach came to tell me to get as many points as possible. I had been planning to gate one squad of troops onto the relic, but since I only had time for one gate, I gated the broadsides t4 and went for the wipeout.

 photo etc6.jpg
Top of 5 only the warriors in combat remained, this is from t6.

20-0 for me and a victory for team Finland.

Round 5 was against Ireland. I was second defender and paired into their Daemons. 3 big squads of fleshhounds with 2 heralds, 2 soul grinders and some troops. Missions was scouring. He made me go first.

 photo etc7.jpg
Daemons t1 movement.

He decided to seize once he saw the blocking infantry I infiltrated. T1 he killed an attack bike, trying to negotiate the infiltrators. He rolled +1 invul on the warpstorm table. I repositioned to continue blocking t2 and lit up the central fleshhounds with nullzone and ignores cover

 photo etc8.jpg
A one wound fleshhound and one wound herald remained....

T2 he charged the screeners but didn't do much else. He got +1 invul again. I proceeded to shoot the second fleshhound squad to one model remaining (again) but killed both heralds, scoring slay the warlord. My commander joined 2 attack bikes and charged in to tie up the last hounds (without herald). T3 he shot at my troops. I hit and ran, shooting down all but 4 of the last hound squad. I think I also killed off one of the lone hounds. MM attack bikes charged daemonettes on the center objective. He countered with daemonettes and an 8" inch difficult charge grinder. His 4 remaining hounds charged some attack bikes, one got away with combat tactics. I have to admit I may have played a little slow this game, with all the important positioning at the start of the game. We also had quite a few rules disputes regarding LoS! and denying nullzone. T4 would be the last. My attack bikes went to contest/control objectives and the broadsides annihilated a couple of troops squads. I won 15-5. Finland drew Ireland.

Last round was against England. I have no pictures. This was by far the most challenging match. I was paired late into double sw blob and 3 vendettas as I had promised the most points from the players left. It was Purge the alien with 2 objectives in the unoccupied quarters and 5th ed spearhead deployment. I made him go first. He rolled 4++ on both blobs, ignores cover on his lascannons and prescience on the other priest. I knew I had one possibility. The list didn't have many units, and couldn't influence many targets at a time. He also wasn't fearless and one blob remained about 5" from the board edge the entire game. If my riptide and attack bikes could bum rush that blob, I might break them and run them off the board. The ruin I got was bad, the windows were so low my broadsides couldn't see out. I ended up deploying them in area and trying to weather the lascannons (also fearing the ignores cover ones).

I should have joined the librarian and huddled the walls. Although I couldn't go to ground, I would have received the same 3+ cover and the suit commander could have joined back in t2 (t1 he joined the riptide to try and moneyshot the manticore but only immobilised it). Now the commander had to take some MM attack bikes and go after the vendettas. I destroyed 2 and brought 1 down to 1 hullpoint, but that meant 1 less attack bike rushing the blob.

In the end, all my attempts to charge the blob were unsuccessful and my outflanking kroot squad (who were making a rush for the objective I had pushed the ig back from) rolled the wrong flank despite rerolls, made 1 hullpoint of damage to the manticore and died ingloriously. I should have brought the bigger kroot squad on earlier and joined the librarian there. Silly me holding them in reserve despite rolling rerolls for my warlord trait and trusting one outflanking squad to arrive on the right flank. I ended up losing 3-17.

Luckily we still drew the round. Finland finished with 8 points (a new record) and 4th place (even better). I scored the most points on the team with 77, and despite the last game couldn't help but be very happy.

Veni, Vidi.. Vici?

And hello again! Total flame going on from my part. Anyways, as promised, I'll be reporting from my tournament. It was quite small, as only 12 players managed to crawl/walk to our local gamestore. As mentioned, 3 rounds, and I can tell you, total carnage. I entered the fray with my Demons. My list was:

Fateweaver

Bloodthirster

4 Crushers, full stuff

4 Crushers, Fury and instr.

5 Fiends, Might

3x5 Plaguebearers

2 Princes with MoT, Bolt

1 Prince with MoS, Pavane and Aura of Aquiscience

First game: Dawn of war, Capture & Control, Vs Tyranids

I hated the matchup as soon as I saw my opponents list. 2 tervigons, 2 units of gaunts, prime, 2 trygons, 7 genestealers, 3x2 hive guards, and warriors. Could be worse, for example, stealer horde, but still so many models.. Not at first glance but he really popped the wormcan with those tervigons, and gaunts flooded 1 table quarter. He went first, deployed some units, and divided his army into 2 blocks in the first turn. The objective-flank, flooded with gaunts and tervigons, and the offensive flank, holding everything else. I got the right wave, focused on his offensive flank confirming atleast 10 points to myself and wiped it on his 3rd, giving myself plenty of time to wipe the gaunts with my strong and fast-enough units. 20-0 win, wipeout. Killed over 150 models, and felt really good 'cos Tyranids definately aren't my favourite matchup.

Second game: Pitched Battle, Seize Ground, Vs. CSM

This time the matchup felt great. Gotta love marines, really, as Demons rarely struggle against anything they can offer. This was no exeption. Despite the fact I failed and got my second wave, total rolldown ensured. My opponent had a lashprince, a vindicator, 3 obliterators, a defiler, 3 units of 7 plaguemarines, 2x2 plasma and 1x2 melta, and 5 terminators. Semi-competetive list atleast. The "firepower" combined with some one-sided rolling crushed some of my units, and after that it was just a race against time for wipeout. The pic shows all he had at the end of 5th. And then the game ended. Shame, but objectives ensured me 17-3 win. Khorne was to be pleased next game..

..against Black Templars.
Third game: Spearhead, Annihlation, Vs. Black Templars

And marines. Love it. Always fun, final against marines. My opponent's list was your everyday regular BT gunline, massing on missiles and lascannons. 4 5-man plasma-lascannon squads with razorbacks(tl las), 5 terminators with 2 assault cannons and tank hunter, 5 terminators with 2 cyclones and tank hunter, marshall, EC, 3 lone speeders, the basics. Oh my, how can I handle this.. He castled up, and tried to pick my monsters out with shooting. I rolled the right wave and well.. it was a harvest. The tanks popped to my bolts and multicharges, and terminators were crushed (or should I say Crusher'd). After the 5th turn he had only 1 razorback with 5 initiates inside. The game ended, and kp's were 13-4. Devastating, and 20-0 win for the Demons.

..Vici. Chiching, 50e. So, I was like Banelings, Banelings Banelings oooooo ooo.. (check the previous post) -Toni

1.5k Tau @ tourney Game 4 vs Black Templars

Hi,

I forgot to video tape this game, so I'll just illustrate how the game went with some Vassal images. You can click the images to enlargen them. My armylist can be found here. His list was something like this:

Marshal with termie command squad and 2 assault cannons

Emperors champion with abhor the witch

5 termies with 2 assault cannons

2x dread with twin-linked lascannon and missile launcher

3x 5 man crusader squads with lascannons and meltaguns (I think one squad had a plasma instead of meltagun)

2x auto-las predator

We were playing for table sixths, which were held with scoring units and contested with any units, with a pitch battle deployment. I go first and deploy across my deployment zone. Ethereal goes into the kroots and devilfishes go into reserve.

He deploys one crusader squad into each tablesixth on his side of the table, but he focuses his forces onto my left flank. He decides to play a refused flank.

He than steals the initiative!

Turn 1

He blasts some gun drones from my bigger broadside unit and kills one of the crisis suits on my left flank.

I start withdrwing onto my right flank. The plan is to ignore the termies. If I can move out of the way, they won't do much, and if I shoot at them th
ey'll close in faster. The lone crisis suit on my left flank takes a side shot at one of the predators. The crisis team on the right flank moves up to threaten the crusade squad, who are very alone on that flank. I blow off the lascannon from the centre dread.

Turn 2

He kills off the crisis suit on the left flank, continues to shoot the broadsides in the centre bringing them down to the leader. One of the crisis suits on the right flank is killed. The remaining suit takes cover in the trench system, within striking distance of the crusaders.

I continue to fall back with my kroots, but my shooting only manages to destroy a lascannon and immobilise the centre dread.

Turn 3:

His termies finish off the last broadside and shooting switches to the command suit team.

The flamer fails to kill anyone from the crusader squad on the right flank, and my shooting fails to harm his preds/dreads. One of my devilfishes arrives, I bring it on my right flank.

Turn 4:

He kills off the crisis suit on the left flank, his lascannons are out of range, and his termies try to kill some kroots.

The last devilfish fails to arrive! The devilfish that is on the table, drives up to the middle of the field, where it eventually is immobilised, so that the fire warriors and gun drones can move into any sixth to contest/hold. I try to shoot the crusaders on the right flank, my plan is to claim the sixth with my fire warriors, claim the bottom right sixth with the kroots and contest one of his sixths with gun drones.

Turn 5:

My opponent realises he wont be able to kill the Kroots, and thus can't take away the sixth they are holding. With his shooting he kills the crisis command squad and immobilizes the devilfish.

The last devilfish arrives on my turn. I drive it up on the very left flank, and disengage the drones, I'm hoping to contest his last sixth with some good run moves. They fall a couple of inches short. In the centre the firewarriors disembark to shoot at the crusaders in the top right sixth and are themselves contesting it. The drones disengage from the devilfish and move to contest the central top sixth. I shoot at the crusaders in the top right corner and bring them down to one marine. At the moment it's a draw

The game goes on

Turn 6:

His shooting is concentrated at the gun drones and fire warriors. He kills the drones in the centre but only manages to kill one from the left flank. His remaining crusader moves up to charge the fire warriors which are shot down to 3 warriors. Both fail to do anything in combat. He disengages the Emperor's champion from one of the termie squads and leaves it to contest the bottom left sixth.

On my turn the devilfish moves up and the fire warriors disembark. The lone drone contests the upper left sixth. The fire warriors rapid fire and kill the Emperor's champion! My luck turns even better when the three firewarriors kill the marine in combat and the game ends!

Summary:

I think he made a bad move in deploying his termies on my far left flank. Their range is only 24" and they should be deployed centrally where they have the best coverage. Because he tried to refused flank me I was able to ignore the termies, and I managed to get away with the horrible shooting I had in the first couple of turns. Still the game really came down to some lucky rolling on my part, and unlucky rolling on his part, as I pushed ahead on turn six to have 3 sixths to his 1. He's a great guy, and I've played against, and lost against him before. I really admire the armylist He's managed to get out of the Templar codex at 1500 points, eventhough I myself play a termispam with my Templars.

Talking of termispam, I painted some more termies for my Templars and have been playtesting 4 termisquads at 1500 points. So far I've gone 4-0-0, stay tuned for some pics and maybe some thoughts on why the templar termispam works so well.

VIDEO: 1.5k Tau vs. Dark Angels

Here's my third game at the tourney I went to with my 1.5k Tau list. The list can be found here.
I enjoyed this game, although the fact that you couldn't take special characters at the tourney hurt my opponent. He was a loyal Dark Angels player however, and decided to keep with the outdated codex.

I'm sorry that it's been taking me some time to get through these videos.

Video: 1.5k Tau @ tourney Game 2

Alright here's the second video battle report from my 5-game tournament. I played against a dreadmob list. My army list can be seen in this post.

I enjoyed the game, eventhough I lost. This was probably the right game to lose, since the Ork player went on to win the tournament.

VIDEO: 1.5k Tau @ tourney game 1

Hi,
I finally got my first video done. I'm up against (almost fully) mech-guard in annihilation.

I enjoyed the game, and my opponent was a good player. I think he was going to be attending the ETC-tournament as a member of team-Finland. I made mistakes, but luckily I still managed to pull out a win.

Here's my list which was affected by restrictions (not allowed to take 2 same kinds of HQs or 3 same kinds of elites, fast attack or heavy support:

Necrons vs Templars 1500pts.

So Saturday I played a game against a fellow Templar player and great painter, and faced the problem of not being able to play with my own Templars. My Eldar are really only starting up, so I didnt feel like playing a 1500 pts. game with so much proxies. I ended up taking my Necrons. I hadnt played with them for quite some time, and I decided to try something new (a lot of it inspired by Star God Fritz's work on his necron blog). Anyway here was my list

Deciever counter attack

Lord w/ destroyer body, scythe, orb and phylicatery planned to use him as a late turn contester

10 warriors
10 warriors
10 warriors

4 scarabs
4 scarabs these guys are my mainstay contesting units

Heavy Destroyer
Heavy Destroyer some actual anti tank, and late turn contesters

Monolith maybe for deepstriking on my opponents objective, or just to take care of the laundry

So what lol noob? No immortals? No destroyers? A C'tan? Well keep on reading.

My opponent had something like this.

Marshal (twin thunderhammers and terminator armour)
5-man terminator command squad w/ 2 assault cannons

Grimaldus

Emperors Champion (Accept any challenge...)

5 Assault terminators ( 4 lightning claws, 1 thunder hammer) w/furious charge

5 Crusaders w/ plasmagun and plasmacannon

5 Crusaders w/ power fist and meltagun

Land Raider Crusader

Overhead is deployment. We rolled base-objectives.

Turn 1: Templars had first turn and he used it to move up his crusader and fire at the warrior squad containing my destroyer lord, killing 2.

On my turn I moved up the deciever and shot everything at that land raider. Now here is an important note: My two heavy destroyers didnt manage a scratch on that land raider, but the first 10-man squad of warriors tore through it, immobilising it (and possibly winning the game), so use the heavy destroyers to take out transports and light tanks, against high AV targets the probabilities of mass Gauss Flayers is way better than two lascannons ( and in that case, all I really needed was an immobilised result).

Turn 2: Assault terminators disembark and procede to charge the deciever. The rest of the army moves up. The Assault terminators only manage one wound on the star god, but recieve 3 wounds in return. They are however fearless and easily manage the two armour saves.

On my turn my Monolith arrives, and one of the Scarab squads. I deepstrike the Monolith next to the crusader squad with Emperors Champion and Grimaldus, who are dangerously close to my Necron warriors. I detach the Destroyer Lord from his squad and prepare to charge in (in the hopes of buying another turn). The Monolith template shoots wide, while all the gauss flayers rapid firing fail to do much. The Lord charges in, takes 1 wound from the Emperors champion, one from Grimaldus and than attempts to chop the Emperors champion in half. He fails miserably, not causing a single wound, and takes a power fist to the head. Conclusion: Don't charge a squad with a power fist, relic blade and angry chaplain.

Turn: 3 The crusader squad with EC and Grimaldus consolidate and charge the squad holding my objective. They slaughter the squad. My Deciever finishes off the assault terminators and consolidates towards the crusader squad up my arse.

On my turn I rapid fire the crusader squad once again. The Monolith template shoots wide (once again) and the Deciever charges in. He kills off the Emperor's champion and a few squad mates.

Turn 4: The Terminator command squad has now reached pretty much the center of the battlefield and are closing in on my warriors. The Deciever kills off all but Grimaldus in close combat.

On my turn I turbo-boost the first squad of scarabs up the left flank, and retreat with the warriors. My Monolith starts to shift towards the terminator command squad. Defying the laws of nature (aka probability) Grimaldus survives the Deviever's deadly attacks. Ofcourse he cant wound the god back.

Turn 5: The terminator command squad continues to advance managing to kill one of the heavy destroyers trying to make a run for it towards the templar objective. Somehow Grimaldus survives another round of CC.

On my turn the first squad of scarabs turboboosts to take the ruins, which was the templar objective. The second squad turbo boosts up the left flank, to prepare to move in on turn 6. I shoot everything I got at the terminator command squad, killing 3 termies.

We roll, and it goes on.

Turn 6: The Templar command squad still try to push on, while the crusaders holding the temlar objective charge, and kill off the scarabs. Grimaldus dies, but than in horror I realise he has a special rule allowing him to rise back EVEN if killed by instant death. He passes the LD check, and the deciever has been decieved.

On my turn Scarab squad #2 turbo boost to contest, meanwhile the monolith glides in between the command squad and my warriors. The remaining heavy destroyers turbo boosts up the left flank, prepared for contesting, if it goes to turn 7.

We roll....... and it goes on!

Turn 7: the crusaders charge the new squad of scarabs, but don't wipe them out. The terminator command squad tries in vain to start going around the Monolith. My Deciever dispatches the irritating chaplain with ease.

On my turn the deciever prepares to charge the terminator command squad, however in the shooting phase, I decide to force them to take a Leadership test. They fail it. Being a sport (and a god) I charge the terminators anyway. The heavy destroyer turbo boosts to contest the templar objective. The deciever dispatches the remaining terminator, but the Marshal strikes back with his twin thunder hammers and 5 attacks, and manages 3 wounds!. Suddenly my "god" is left with one remaining wound! Good thing that was the last close combat round of the game.

Game ends with Necrons winning 1-0

Although Heavy Destroyers arent that great, there is one reason why I'm holding back on switching them for destroyers. Heavy destroyers can act solo ( and so are a cheaper contester). For antitank the best way to STOP a tank is by rapid firing it. The best way to DESTROY a tank is by thrusting a warscythe into it, or letting the star god play with it.

Templars vs Space Wolves 1500pts.

So, I got together with a fellow player (joona) to have a game against his wolves. I wasnt sure how the older templar codex would do against the puppies, but than again joona wasnt such a competitive player. By clicking the pics, the enlargen ':0.

Templars:

Marshal with 4-man terminator command squad w/ 2 assault cannons

Emperors Champion

2x 5-man terminator squad w/ assault cannons

Ven. dread in drop pod w/multimelta

2x 5-man crusader squad in rhino

2x 5-man stormtrooper squad

Space Puppies:

Wolf Lord

Wolf Priest

Wolfguard /scattered into the GH squads

Lonewolf w/ 2 fenrisian wolves

8 Grey Hunters in rhino w/ lots of plasma

5 grey hunters in razorback w/ lots of plasma

10 grey hunters w/ lots of plasma

6 fenrisian wolves w/ cyberpuppy

6 skyclaws

5 longfangs w/ 2 plasmacannons, 2 heavy bolters

turn 1:

overhead is the deployment. We played with 5 objectives (hit-signs). Wolves had placed the long fangs in a nice ruin at the back of their zone, the fenrisian wolves and skyclaws were behind the main line of Grey Hunters. The Wolf priest was in the rhino (lefthand vehicle) and the wolflord was in the GH squad on foot. I forgot about the Lone-wolf he was by the hill.

I placed all my termie squads so that atleast half of them were in cover. The emperors champion was in the squad closest to the wolves. The rest of my army went in reserve.

The wolves kicked off the game by rushing my way. The skyclaws and fenrisians were circling around to the other flank at the back of the Wolves' table edge, with the razoeback moving infront of them. The lonewolf climbes the hill, while the rhino and GHs on foot head straight for the templars. The Longfangs realise that only one plasmacannon is in range, and that even he is just slightly to one of the assault cannon termies on the hill. His plasmacannon misses.

My command squad targets the lonewolf, killing his fenrisian pals. The rest fire at the closing rhino, only shaking it.

Turn 2:

The wolves keep moving forward. The skyclaws and fenrisians continue their flanking manouvre, while the razorback drives up to the objective and lets out the GH cargo. The longfangs shoulder their weapons and start moving down from the ruins.

My stormtroopers and one rhino arrive. The stortroopers run to the cover of the hill, and the rhino drives up behind the termies. My assault cannons target the razorback immobilising and shaking it.

Turn 3

The rhino drives up to the center objectives and the Grey hunters with wolfpriest disembark. The rapid fire at the termie squad without any characters attached, adn bring it down to the two assaukt cannons. The rest of the army keep redeploying/moving, and the skyclaws and fenrisians realise they are trapped, by the now immobile razorback, so much for a flanking manouvre!

My dread arrives via droppod and crashes in the center of the board, and the last rhino pushes up on my left flank. The rhino that arrived last turn drives up to hide behing the tower. The emperors champion switches to the termie squad that was just reduced to the assault cannons. My termies mass fire the grey hunters wittling it down to the wolf priest, power fist, wolfguard w/ frostblade and wulfen. The command squad shoots and kills the lone wolf. The emperors champion and the two termies charged the remaining GHs. The EC slew the wolfpriest, but took a hit to the head from the squad PF. The Frost blade wolf guard only did one wound, which was saved with the invulnerable, and the two termies proceded to hack the remaining GH. The consolidated 6" back to the line of termies.

Turn 4&5:
Forgot to make a pic of turn 4 :(

The wolf lord, and his retinue of grey hunters kept moving towards the templars, and the fenrisians and skyclaws piled behind the razorback. The small squad of Grey hunters holding the objective destroy the dreadnought with plasmafire.

I just pour fire into the Wolf Lord's squad bringing it down to five men.

The Grey Hunters with wolf lord decide to hide behind the rhino (still dont understand why). The longfangs finally take a shot, and manage to bring the terminator command squad down to just the power sword termie and marshal.

On my turn the rhino behind the tower makes a move for the wolf held objective firing smokes.
The two assault cannon termies shoot and assault the rhino, wrecking it. The other terminator squad and the two stormtrooper squads pour fire into the GHs behind the rhino, bringin it down to just the wolflord. My Marshal along with the terminator sergeant charge and finish off the wolf lord. It's 2-1 for the templars. We roll.... and it continues.

Turn 6: The skyclaws leap over the immobilised razorback and prepare to charge my rhino. The GHs behind them try to shoot it with plasma, but the old smoke launchers save me yet again. The skyclaws fail to hit the rhino in assault.

On my turn I tank shock my rhino onto the objective. My last full man termie squad charges the skyclaws and annihlates it.

Turn 7 was really me just mopping up.
